The double eagle is a gold coin of the United States. It has a denomination of twenty dollars and should not be confused with the more modern gold eagle which started in 1986 to be collected by gold bullion investors. There are different faces to this coin such as that with the Liberty head design or that with the Saint Gaudens' design. These coins are made from ninety percent gold and are considered to be collectables although they are also a great investment.

There are a number of different places where these coins and others can be purchased. They can be found online at various businesses that specialize in this field but they can also be found in other types of shops as well. Whenever these are purchased, they have an authenticity note included with them to state that they are indeed that valuable piece of history that has been designed so many years ago.

The first one of these particular coins was minted in 1849 and were regularly produced starting the next year and right up until 1933. With such a small piece pertaining to such a large part of history, it is not difficult to see why these pieces are sought after.
