The half eagle is a coin origination from the United States. It is the first gold coin minted by this country and has been in production for circulation since 1795 which then ended in 1929. It was then product for commemorative and bullion purposes in the 1980's. While it has a face value of $5, it is composed almost entirely of gold, in fact it is more than ninety percent gold, thus giving it a much higher intrinsic value.
There are many different faces seen on this type of coin including the Turban Head, Draped Bust, Classic Head Design, Liberty Head Design and the Indian Head Design. These are all very distinct to anyone who has seen these coins and all stand to represent some part of history.
The five dollar coin is the only one to have been minted at seven American mints. The coins for circulation and those that were made for collection purposes or for bullion can be purchased in various locations. There prices of the commemorative coin may vary according to the shop because of the rarity of the coin however those made for the purposes of bullion are based on the market value of the precious metal.
